IT Specialist

Description:

Boston Productions, Inc. (BPI) is an award-winning designer, developer and integrator of multi-media exhibits and other interactive experiences throughout the US. We specialize in media design, production, and AV systems installations for museums, visitor centers, sports venues and retail environments. We develop interactive applications, as well as produce films, audio, and immersive theaters. We love to build interactions with physical components, multiple screens, and unusual interfaces. We work closely with design firms and fabricators, as well as directly with our end clients to execute unique, creative projects.

 

We are looking for a skilled IT Professional to undertake tasks in two related areas:  Roughly half the time, this role will serve company needs of network and hardware design and maintenance for our internal operations, supporting our team of developers, creatives, project managers, and video editors.  The other half of the time, this role will consult and troubleshoot external networks and computer systems for our clients that are critical to the successful implementation and functioning of our exhibits and interactive experiences.


 Responsibilities - Internal Operations

  • Evaluate network and hardware performance and find ways to improve our systems
  • Perform troubleshooting to diagnose system failures and maintain/upgrade equipment and systems as necessary
  • Organize and schedule upgrades and maintenance while minimizing the efficiency loss to team members
  • Set up regular data backups to protect the organization’s information
  • Test and configure software and maintain and repair hardware and peripheral devices
  • Provide technical direction to co-workers on computer and network usage and offer comprehensive advice and instructions.
  • Manage employee account creation and deletion for the software tools that we use (including LogMeIn, Jira, Desk.com, Office 365, etc.)
  • Troubleshoot computer software and hardware issues and make repairs
  • Ensure that security software is properly installed on employee computers
  • Field questions from employees about software installation and hardware upgrades
  • Maintain all systems documentation.
  • Configure, troubleshoot, coordinate repairs, and order/install supplies for stand-alone and networked printers and copiers.
  • Recommend and purchase new equipment and services across all IT platforms.
  • Initiate, coordinate and manage all IT-related vendor contracts, relationships and work.
  • Implement upgrade/replacement of hardware and software, including the purchasing or leasing of supplies and disposal of old materials
  • Add, modify and delete users and equipment in phone system and maintain voicemail and auto-attendant system.
  • Coordinate employee onboarding and offboarding with respect to hardware, account management, and data backups.
  • Manage and set up AV systems (laptops, monitors, audio systems)

Responsibilities - Client Facing

  • Consult with clients in advance of project start regarding their networking system infrastructure capacities.
  • Make recommendations for changes or upgrades to their systems.  
  • Ensure clients have the proper information, network, and hardware configurations to successfully launch and maintain the systems we are installing.
  • Provide technical support to clients through various channels of communication
  • Assist in troubleshooting any potential systems issues with clients before and after installation. Make recommendations for repair if necessary.
  • Maintain clear documentation of reported problems and keep a written record of attempted and successful solutions.
  • Maintain record of project hours for client billing purposes.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in IT or relevant position
  • Proficiency in Windows and OSX. Linux experience a plus.
  • Experience with Virtualization Platforms (VMWare, HyperV)
  • Strong background in server management and software installations and upgrades
  • Ability to install and administer computer hardware, software and networks.
  • Outstanding diagnostic, problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Hands-on experience with common software and hardware
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to analyze, problem solve and make decisions on your own
  • BSc/BA in computer science, computer engineering or relevant field
  • 3+ years’ experience in an IT/support role
  • Clean driving record and willingness to travel

AV Hardware Integration Technician

Location:   Norwood, MA

Position Type:  Full-time

We work closely with design firms and fabricators, as well as, directly with our end clients to execute unique, creative projects.

 Responsibilities:

This position includes building and installing AV racks, hanging monitors, projectors, speakers, and lighting, as well as, installing and managing computer interactive exhibits, pulling and terminating cable, and systems prototyping. Client communication skills and professional demeanor are essential.

 

The position also includes inventory duties such as ordering, shipping, and receiving. Travel out of state and distance driving is required.

Qualifications: 


A minimum of two years of experience in AV system installation and a solid base knowledge of AV systems and computers. Solid mechanical skills are required. Applicant must be an organized and motivated self-starter, and take direction well. Applicant must have demonstrated customer service skills. Clean driving record essential.
