The Rescue

Over a year in the making, “The Rescue” experience is now open at the National Museum of the Pacific War in Fredericksburg, TX. Based on Stephen Trent Smith’s book The Rescue, this immersive production tells the harrowing true story of Berna Real, a nine-year-old expatriate living in the Philippines during World War II. Forced to flee from Japanese forces, Berna and her family evade capture through the jungle and ultimately find refuge aboard a U.S. Navy Balao-class submarine, the Crevalle, enduring nine perilous days at sea, including a relentless four-hour depth charge attack.

BPI designed, scripted, produced, and installed this groundbreaking three-theater experience, which features rich themed environments, multiple screens, dynamic lighting, and special environmental effects. The highlight of the attraction is the submarine theater, a custom-built motion simulator that mimics the vessel’s dive and ascent, fully immersing guests in the dramatic rescue.

BPI worked closely with the talented team at the National Museum of the Pacific War, including Executive Director David Shields, Director of Collections and Exhibits Nicole Bagley, and Director of Education and Museum Programs Kyna Stys, whose dedication and research helped uncover and shape this incredible story.

In addition to “The Rescue” experience, there is an interactive pre-show area, offering additional programming and historical context to enrich the visitor experience.

“The Rescue” is a must-see attraction. –  It’s not just immersive—it’s SUBMERSIVE.
