C. O. Polk Interactive Museum

When the city of McDonough, GA, earmarked a charming, 1940s Post Office situated on the City’s classic green as the site of the C. O. Polk Interactive Museum, BPI developed exhibits to tell the City’s historical, cultural, and political stories via distinctly contemporary means.

Two holograms of the City’s beloved, idiosyncratic mayor welcome visitors and takes them on a tour of the city. The life-sized depiction, welcomes visitors, while a mini-Mayor, takes visitors on a table-top, projection-mapped and animated tour of the City’s historic town square as it appeared throughout history.

A 15-foot, McDonough History Timeline and video wall interactive takes visitors from the first land purchases and treaties with the Creek Indians through the Civil War and Reconstruction to the present by own visitors’ movement along the timeline, triggering a ceiling-mounted, IR sensor array.

Four BPI-produced, 3- to 10-minute linear films include poignant biographies of famous McDonough artists, a documentary of the City’s history acknowledging a painful past of segregation, and an upbeat depiction of the City today–a warm community full of small-town heart.

Capitalizing on the structure’s unique architecture, BPI also created a multi-screen, multi-artifact space known as the Vault Object Theater–actually set in the old Post Office’s vault–that highlights the City’s early industries. A multi-touch, 7-subject Object Table and multiple digital signage screens completed the visitor experience.
